State police say a deer hit by a vehicle crashed through the windshield of another car in Saginaw County, killing a woman and leaving her husband in critical condition.

The crash happened Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. on Dixie Highway between Canada and Birch Run roads.

Amanda Michal Gibbs, 35, died at the scene of the crash. Her 34-year-old husband, Philip Eugene Gibbs, was taken to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Amanda was in the passenger seat while her husband was behind the wheel. The couple have a young daughter together.

Dixie Highway was closed for nearly three hours while crews cleared the scene.

The roadway has since reopened.
