FLINT TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

It's Black Friday! Shoppers were up and out early across Mid-Michigan looking for great holiday deals.

"Our hubby's are home in bed - sleep and watching the kids," said Peggy Rajala.

The early bird gets the best deal.

"Everything in this cart is half off. So, definitely good deals," added Jackie Miller.

Lori Stafford added, "This is the one time of year that I can stand the wait in line. That I have patience."

Shoppers at Toys-R-Us in Flint Township were on a mission. Their lists were made. They checked them twice - trying to get all their items for a great price.

"I have a lot of grand children. I would love to see them have a blessed holiday. But we're also buying for underprivileged children in the community," said James Montgomery.

Some early shoppers looking for a great deal got more than they bargained for - free holiday entertainment. Terri Herrick and a group of her friends spread holiday cheer to shoppers this morning.

They rented a party bus and performed a flash mob dance at busy stores.

"It's really kind of brightened everybody up while they're standing outside. Everybody's been videotaping us and we've been at it for nearly six hours," said Herrick.

After pausing for the show, it was back to work for shoppers like Jackie Miller.

"With four kids this is just breaking into it. I've still got a lot more to do," Miller said.

And while the National Retail Federation predicts shoppers will spend about 4 percent more this holiday season than last, many say it's not about the spending but the giving.

"It's about what you can share. This is a time for giving. But give from your heart. Let it mean something when you give," Montgomery said.
