SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Reports of an incident at an area funeral home sent police flying into action on Tuesday morning.

Friends and family had gathered to say goodbye to 16-year-old Walter Edward Riley III at the Paradise Funeral Home on South Washington around 9 a.m. That's when visitors to the funeral witnessed either one or two vehicles show up with a gun protruding from one of the vehicles.

Saginaw police Lt. Paul Crane told TV5 the funeral home director called Saginaw police, who "flooded" the scene and the area with officers. Authorities said when they arrived, there was no sign of either vehicle.

Police searched the area, plus stationed two police vehicles at the funeral home, who also escorted the funeral procession to the cemetery and stayed until services were completed there.

Crane said at first it was indicated that shots had been fired when the vehicles showed up at the funeral home, but police have ruled that out.

Riley was a student at Saginaw High School and his shooting death was Saginaw's 26th homicide for 2012.
