SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
Bradley Eichstaedt is looking for love.
"I don't want to be single any more," Eichstaedt said.
Aisleen Morr is too.
"People can message, chat with you if you'd like," she said.
And Maggie Tolasch actually found love online.
"We've been married since 2007," said Tolasch.
Maggie met her husband Kevin online in 2005. They have two children. She says she played it safe from the beginning.
"As long as you play your cards right and you're smart about it, not just talking to him once, and be like, 'Whoop, gonna go meet him now,'" Tolasch warns.
But she says the search for "Mr. Right" didn't come without fear of who might be lurking at the other end of the computer. She was 21 when she met her husband, the same age Morr is right now. Morr uses a dating site and says the dangers are real.
"I will take a friend with me and I'll have them sit a few tables away to keep an eye on me," Morr said.
She does her homework before she ever agrees to meet the person. She Googles them and checks sex offender registries.
Bradley Eichstaedt, 51, says safety measures must be in place if you date online.
"Until I feel safe, or until I feel a trust between me and you, you're not going to know where I live," said Eichstaedt.
Saginaw County Sheriff Bill Federspiel said these three online daters have it right.
"We just have to be very careful as a society, because we see more and more predators going after people who have a good heart, very emotional , and they just really want to meet someone for friendship or companionship," said Federspiel.
Federspiel said it's hard to know who the predators are, but with a set of guidelines specifically designed to keep yourself safe, you will be.
