Jayden Lamb's father talks to TV 5 about his son's passing

MIDLAND COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Tom Lamb is mourning the loss of his 8-year-old son Jayden. He died Tuesday night after a two-year battle with cancer. Lamb spoke to WNEM as he relived his final moments with his child.

"He knew I loved him and I think he was just simply hanging on by love and nothing else but love. We played Brad Paisley's song Water, because that was his favorite song of all time and he got to listen to that while he was leaving us," Lamb said.

Jayden would've been 9 on Dec. 12. Earlier this month, the entire community came out to show the boy an early Christmas.

Now instead of planning a birthday party for his son, Tom Lamb is planning a funeral. He urges all parents to appreciate their children a little more.

"Hold your kids. Don't sweat the small stuff. If they're a little bit bad in public it's OK. Talk to them as a parent but just enjoy them. Because you don't know, you just never know how long you're going to have them," Lamb said

Earlier this year Lamb started the Facebook page called Keep On Truckin' Team Jayden. It has thousands of likes from people who were praying to see Jayden beat his disease.

"You guys don't understand how much you really do help us and your words of encouragement help lift us up. Even though we don't respond to every one of them we see them and they mean a lot," Lamb said.

Now Lamb is hoping the community can lend their support again. In lieu of flowers, Lamb is asking people to donate toys in Jayden's name for children that need gifts for Christmas.

"It would make him so happy to see other kids happy because of him," Lamb said

Meanwhile, Lamb is coping with the unthinkable as he prepares to bury a child that he calls his angel.

"You're my best buddy in the whole wide world. And daddy misses you," Lamb said

Country star Brad Paisley wrote a message to the Lamb family on Facebook. Paisley says he is devastated after learning of Jayden's passing.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. inside Messiah Lutheran Church, located on the corner of Poseyville and Gordonville in Midland. Visitation begins Friday afternoon at 2 p.m.
