FLINT, MI (WNEM) -
Fire officials in Flint responded to a blaze that is being deemed an arson fire at an abandoned apartment in Flint Thursday morning.
Crews were called to the two-story, six-apartment structure around 5:45 a.m.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the structure. Crews determined that the building was vacant after units executed a search and rescue and found no one.
Officials are calling the blaze suspicious because trenches were dug into the floor and gas was everywhere.
The building is located on Second Street near Asylum Street. That's about a quarter of a mile from Mosley Park.
The building was a total loss. A structure next to the building may have suffered minor damage but that hasn't been confirmed at this point.
Officials remain on the scene hoping to extinguish hot spots and will sift through rubble to try to determine a cause of the fire.
