BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -
Bay City commissioners will vote tonight on a measure that would merge the city's police and fire departments.
It's part of an effort to save nearly two million dollars over five years.
The controversial plan would lay off 14 of the current 43 firefighters and also cross train police officers to fight fires.
The firefighters union is against the proposal and will bring other ideas to tonight's meeting.
The commission meets tonight at 7:30 PM at the Pere Marquette Depot.
