HOWELL, MI (WNEM) -

One hundred fifty Michigan National Guard Soldiers are back home after a 12-month tour of duty. The soldiers were deployed in Kuwait and Afghanistan.

Army National Guard members were part of the Howell-based 1462nd Transportation Company. An emotional ceremony welcomed them when they arrived at Highlander Middle School in Howell on Sunday afternoon.

The transportation unit performed multiple missions during the tour of duty. The large unit was led by Capt. Megan Hall and 1st Sgt.David Spreeman. Troops received mission specific training before deployment at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Today, more than 1,000 Michigan National Guard Soldier sand Airmen are deployed across the globe in support of the global war on terrorism. However, as the Michigan Guard serves the nation abroad, more than90 percent of the force is available, trained and ready to respond to a state emergency, including a terrorist event.
