SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

After losing his seat in the August Primary elections, long-time Saginaw County Prosecutor Mike Thomas has taken a job with the State Attorney General's office.

Thomas has been named as a special assistant attorney general under Attorney General Bill Schuette.

It is believed that Thomas will move to Genesee County to work with County Prosecutor David Leyton.

Thomas has served as director of the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan since 1991 and director of the National District Attorneys Association since 1996.

"Mike's a talented guy," Schuette said. "He has great experience, he's tough, he's knowledgeable and he has a keen desire to serve. To be able to work with Mike Thomas is an honor."

Thomas was defeated in the primary by John McColgan Jr., who then defeated Matthew Frey in the November general election to become the county's next prosecutor.
