Prosecution, defense spar over statements made by admitted school shooter
GEAUGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -
A suppression hearing was held Thursday for TJ Lane, who admitted to the February 27 shooting at Chardon High School, but offered no motive.
Lane is using an insanity defense, and now his attorneys are fighting to get some evidence tossed, particularly, what he said to police in a cruiser when they picked him up.
The judges decision could effect any thought of a plea deal, as the prosecutions case is far stronger if the statement made to police in the cruiser can be read.
The judge will render his decision in ten days.
17-year-old Russell King, Jr., 16-year-old Daniel Parmertor and 16-year-old Demetrius Hewlin were killed. 17-year-old Nick Walczak remains paralyzed from the waist down. 18-year-old Joy Rickers and a 6th, unidentified victim were treated and released from the hospital.
