Christmas comes early for local family

MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

It's going to be a very merry Christmas for one local family, thanks to the kindness of strangers.

Sheila Sharp thought she was coming to Journey's coffee shop in midland Friday night to play bingo.

But, when she arrived, she got the surprise of her life.

She quickly learned that a table full of gifts was for her family.

It's all thanks to a group of women who are a part of the Midland Yard Sale page on Facebook.

They said they decided to help after finding out that Sharp's 10-year-old son Nick, who has leukemia, really wanted a Nintendo for Christmas and that the family couldn't afford it.

People who never met them, but heard about the family's struggles, stepped up to make sure it's a special Christmas for Nick and the entire family.

"It is the spirit of Christmas, it shows how much people care and makes me feel good," Sheila Sharp said.

The ladies aren't done just yet, they are selling bracelets to help raise money to offset the cost of travel to Ann Arbor where Nick Sharp is being treated. If you would like to purchase a bracelet, you can go to www.alifeac.org for more information.
