Booms placed in Flint River to contain gas spill

LAPEER, Mich. (AP) -

Officials placed booms in the Flint River to contain a gasoline spill in Lapeer that got into storm drains.

A Flint television station reports the spill happened Tuesday afternoon when fuel came up from underground at a gas station during a fuel delivery.

Lapeer fire Chief Terry Kluge says a "significant amount of gas" got into the drain and most of it was contained by the booms.

The cause of the spill is under investigation. Officials say there was no immediate threat of danger.

State environmental officials also responded.
