FLUSHING TWP, MI (WNEM) -

The Genesee County Sheriff's Department has been patrolling Flushing Township for nearly a year.

Community leaders believe its been so successful, Thursday, they voted to extend their partnership.

The board of trustees voted unanimously to continue to use the Genesee County Sheriff's Department for the township's public safety, for at least another three months.

This move comes just a day after the county commissioners approved the measure.

Its been nearly a year since the township got rid of its own police department and the sheriff department took over.

The previous board made that decision back in February.

The board now has four, newly-elected trustees who also favor the idea of continuing to work with the sheriff's department.

"Well I think it was a very good arrangement," said Bonnie Martinson, a trustee

The three-month extension will start on Jan. 1 and run through the end of March.
