BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Police in Bay City say one man is fighting for his life and four others are in jail after an early morning shooting on the east side.

Police tell WNEM.com that two groups of people started arguing just after midnight near Sixth and Van Buren. One person in each group was armed. One man pulled out a shotgun and fired a warning shot into the ground.

Fragments from that blast ricocheted into Santino Mota, of Bay City, hitting of his legs and his head. Police said the fragment went through Mota's eye and into his skull. He has been flown to the University of Michigan hospital in Ann Arbor.

The shooter and three other people are in custody. Police say the shooting is not gang related.

Charges against those involved are pending.
