Mid-Michigan Pays Tribute to Newtown School Shooting Victims

Posted: Updated:

The nation continues to mourn after a gunman opened fire yesterday at a Connecticut elementary school leaving 26 dead, including 20 children.

In the wake of yesterday's tragedy, many in mid-Michigan are weighing in with tributes to the victims and their families. Here are just a few of the comments we've received through our Facebook page:

"All my prayers go out to everyone involved with the shooting. For all the ones who lost children and families who lost loved ones: We the People of the USA are hurting for you and everyone is praying." –Anita H.

"My thoughts about yesterday and what happened I really don't know if I trust having my kids go to school knowing that if this can happen somewhere else, it can happen anywhere. I feel that our schools need to do more to keep our kids safe and prevent what happened in Newtown. I really feel for those little ones and the adults that had to go through this. I will pray for their family and friends. My heart goes out to you all." –Kayla L.

"My prayers and thoughts go out to not only the families but to the innocent children who suffered and lost their lives today. It's too bad sick people have the heart to even think of doing such a horrible thing. Merry Christmas, you're all beautiful angels in heaven now." –Kasee B.

"As a former kindergarten teacher I can only imagine the horror that these young children had to endure during this tragedy. We need to be able to pray for our children in schools - if you don't think evil was present yesterday just ask one of the parents who lost a child. My heart and prayers go out to all the children, teachers, and families who are involved." –Christina G.

"My heart is breaking for all the families who won't get to see their child go on a first date, go to high school, prom, graduation, college, and so on. And why? Because some deranged man thought it was okay to shoot innocent children. It honestly makes me sick." -Seairah M.
