FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The Flint Board of Education will hold a special meeting Tuesday, and the district is expected to name an interim superintendent.

The board will interview the final two candidates before announcing who will take over the spot left vacant by former superintendent Linda Thompson.

The candidates are Larry Watkins, who retired as the Director of Pupil Personnel Services in August 2012 and David Solis, who retired as the Director of State and Federal Programs in September 2009.

The board opted not to renew Thompson's contract during a meeting that was held in March of 2012.  Thompson had held the position since 2008.

The Flint school district is facing steep enrollment declines and is trying to find cost-cutting measures.

The meeting is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m. inside the Sarvis Center, located at 1231 East Kearsley Street.
