Marlette Junior/Senior High school
SANILAC COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
A Sanilac County school district is canceling all classes and activities through this Friday.
WNEM TV5 was first alerted to the closing by a parent who received a robo-call from the school stating that class would be canceled for the remainder of the week because of a threat.
Marlette Community Schools Superintendent Jeriann Patterson said there was no threat but earlier Tuesday, school officials were advised of a conversation between students on a bus.
Several students were interviewed by school administration and local law enforcement and parents were contacted.
The investigation revealed that the conversation between the two students was that of recent events in nearby districts and not that of Marlette Community Schools.
Patterson said that at no time were students in jeopardy.
"However, due to the recent events the Board of Education and I felt that it was in the best interest of the district to cancel classes and extra curricular events for the remainder of the week," said Patterson in a written statement. "The days will be made up in June."
Cass City schools canceled class on Monday after a threat was made over the weekend, and several school districts across the state have had threats made following a tragic shooting in Connecticut that ended with 26 people dead, 20 of them children.
