MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

Dow Kokam is expected to lay off as many as 60 workers because of weak demand for advanced lithium-ion batteries.

The Midland Daily News reports those layoffs are coming from the Midland Battery Park.

Layoffs are also coming to the company's plant in Lee's Summit, MO.

The company has offices in China and France, but it is unclear at this time if layoffs will take place at those particular units.

The cuts are set to be made in various departments.

The 60 workers make up about a quarter of the company's workforce.

Dow Kokam has continued to hang on as a U.S. maker of batteries while other companies have filed for bankruptcy protection due to the weak demand of the product.
