Bay City police chief named public safety director

BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Michael Cecchini, Bay City's police chief since 2006, has been named the city's new public safety director.

As director, Cecchini's duties include administering, planning and directing the activities and operations of the city's Public Safety Department.

Cecchini has been in law enforcement for 25 years, beginning as a patrol officer in Phoenix in 1987.

Cecchini has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Arizona State University and a master's in education from Northern Arizona University.

On Dec. 3, 2012, the Bay City City Commission adopted the implementation plan for public safety merging the police and fire departments to make the functions more effective and efficient.

Cecchini begins his duties effective Jan. 1, 2013.
