FRANKENMUTH, MI (WNEM) -
Some people spent Christmas Eve in Frankenmuth by either walking, driving or getting out and taking a picture with the beautiful lights.
"I think it's a really pretty and nice place to be on Christmas Eve," said Jordan Hayes.
Hayes is spending Christmas in Flint with her grandparents this year. Her family drove downstate from Gaylord. Her father, Larry Hayes, grew up knowing Frankenmuth and he said he wanted to give her a taste of true Christmas spirit.
"She needs to experience this. See all the lights. She's never been to Bronners, she needs to see that," said Larry Hayes.
And on Christmas Eve, it wasn't hard finding families who used Frankenmuth to kick-start the holiday. Chris Wilcox and his 3-year old son, Alex, held hands as they looked at all of the lights and Christmas displays at Bronners. Wilcox says this year's special because Alex is excited about Santa bringing him his favorite Spiderman toy and because his wife expecting with his second son, due in February.
"These are the best years right here. This is absolutely awesome being a parent of a 3-year old, any parent out there knows these are the best years, the best years," said Wilcox.
For other families, Frankenmuth is part of their tradition.
"I live in Tennessee and come visit the family and we have to come and look at the lights every year," said Christie Thomas, who drove through the tunnel of lights at Bronners.
And they say spending the final hours in a city full of Christmas joy brings the Christmas spirit into their living rooms the next day.
"Oh Frankenmuth all the time, but especially at Christmas, we have to come through here," said Sherry Fee.
While some families say coming to Frankenmuth on Christmas Eve is a tradition, other families say it soon may be. Families like the Wilcox family said there aren't many places that offer what Frankenmuth does during the holidays.
