FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Mid-Michigan residents are mourning the loss of a well-known high school football coach.

Dar Christiansen is best known for his years at Flint Southwestern Academy. He helped the team get two back-to-back undefeated seasons in the 1970s.

Christiansen left with a record of 56 wins and eight losses. He has the best winning percentage of any football coach in Flint history. He was inducted into the Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame.

He was a quarterback at Flushing High School in the 1950s and also played running back at Albion College upon graduation.

Christiansen coached such football legends as Rick Leach, Ricky Patton, Reggie Williams and Booker Moore.

He died at his home in Florida on Wednesday. He was 71.
