A show of support for military members is popping up in the windows of local businesses. Store owners are proudly displaying a blue and gold decal as a way to say thanks.
The program called "We Support You" started in Frankenmuth with some businesses offering discounts, freebies or even a simple thank you card.
Sharril McNally organized the program. She was inspired by her son, Brandon McNally, who serves in the military. Two years ago Brandon McNally received a free piece of pie when a restaurant found out he served. His mom took the idea and ran with it.
"I thought it was really neat that someone took the time to say thank you for serving," said Sharril McNally.
Businesses can purchase the decals for $50 and all of the proceeds benefit military organizations. Half of the money goes to the Fisher House to provide free or low-cost lodging to veterans and military families receiving treatment at military medical centers. The other half will go to various local military projects, like in Frankenmuth where the funds will help send care packages overseas or provide dogs for veterans.
Sharril McNally hopes to expand the program to other communities and even other states.
