SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
A man has died after dropping from a bridge into the icy Saginaw River, despite rescue attempts by multiple emergency agencies.
Mlive.com (http://bit.ly/Uhxpkw) says that the Saginaw police and fire departments and Saginaw County Sheriff's Department sent crews to the Genesee Bridge about 3:30 p.m. Sunday after getting a report of a man jumping into the river.
Sheriff's Lt. Randy Pfau says a firefighter went into the water with the man and sustained hypothermia. He says dive team members couldn't deploy a boat because of ice chunks in the river, delaying the rescue.
An emergency medical team performed life-saving measures on the man and took him to St. Mary's of Michigan hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
The man's name, age and hometown haven't been released.
