Locals hit gyms to begin New Year's resolutions

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

It's the first day of the New Year and many people in Mid-Michigan are kicking off their resolutions.

On the first day of 2013 TV5 caught up with some people who are making an effort to lose some weight by signing up for gym memberships.

Kent Munro is like a lot of people trying to make a change for the New Year. He and his wife Nancy were at Planet Fitness in Saginaw Township working up a sweat.

"That's part of my resolution is to get back into shape, and there's no better place than here," said Munro.

A couple of weeks ago, Munro took a long look at himself and he decided enough was enough.

"[We] had some friends bring us here and went through the complex and liked it and joined up," explains Munro. "I've been coming everyday trying to get myself in shape."

Munro tells TV5 he wants to have more energy to play with his grandchildren. That's one of the reasons why he's hitting the gym.

"I let it go to long, and found there's stuff I couldn't do and figured, well, I'm going to get myself back in shape and see what happens," said Munro.

No matter what, the retired firefighter says he's using will power to stay on track.

"Whether it's all year or six months, I'm going to try and stick to it and get myself back in the shape I want to be in," Munro said.

Munro is hoping to lose 60 pounds. He knows it won't be easy, but he's going to give everything he's got to make this new goal a reality.

"Give it all you can and stick to it, and that's the only way you're going to accomplish things," advises Munro to those looking to 2013 as a reason to get back into shape.
