The Midland County Sheriff's Department is investigating a one-vehicle fatal traffic crash that claimed the life of a 13-month-old Lee Township girl and resulted in injuries to four other people.

The crash happened on Friday around 1:30 p.m.

Deputies said the driver, a 29-year-old Midland County resident, was travelling westbound on Wackerly Road near the Bay/Midland County Line Road when he lost control and ran off the road. Authorities said the vehicle overturned in a ditch.

The other passengers in the vehicle were a 9-year-old boy, a 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl. Those passengers received injuries that were not life-threatening as a result of the crash. All occupants were taken to Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland for treatment.

The 13-month-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said the cause of the crash is unknown and the incident will continue to be probed.
