EAST LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

Students who live in the residence halls at Michigan State University will enjoy free, unlimited laundry service.

The Department of Residence Education and Housing Services, which oversees on-campus housing, is adding this complimentary service starting this summer to Snyder and Phillips halls.  The free service will expand to all other residence halls in the fall 2013.

Students living in dorms will swipe their identification cards to use the machines for free.

Annually, MSU students spend more than $1.3 million on laundry service in the residence halls.  The average student spends more than $90 a year on laundry service.

The average student does 18 loads of laundry per semester.
