This gas transport truck was hit by a car that slid on an icy road.
MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) -
Numerous accidents were reported around Mid-Michigan because of black ice conditions.
Police told TV5 Wednesday morning that the road conditions were like driving on a pane of glass.
Central Dispatch said 62 crashes occurred in Saginaw County between 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. Six were injury accidents and none were life-threatening. Midland County said it had 28 accidents.
Emergency responders were on the scene of a rollover accident at Hemlock Road and Roosevelt Road in Saginaw County. Reports at the time indicated one person was pinned inside a car involved in that crash. That person sustained what police were calling minor injuries.
An accident near 5605 East Rd. in Saginaw County's Spaulding Township knocked down a power pole and power lines were down in the area. No injuries were reported in that accident.
Officials were also on the scene of a crash at Frost and Hemlock roads. At least one person was believed to be injured in that crash. The extent of injuries sustained is unknown.
An accident at Midland Road and Hackett Road also snarled traffic and one person was reported to have sustained injuries as well. The person was believed to be pinned inside the vehicle.
In Bay County, police responded to an accident at North Huron Road or M-13, north of Linwood Road. Traffic was slow going in that area because of the crash. Bay County Central Dispatch reports 44 crashes this morning, with 6 people hurt.
In Tuscola County, an accident west of the town of Vassar was reported. That crash was reportedly in the area of Vassar and Waterman roads.
There was also an accident reported at the intersection of M-81 and M-15.
In Genesee County, as many as 60 accidents were reported Wednesday morning, and a different kind of hazard had traffic backed up. A car hit a truck and a 25-gallon drum has spilled onto lanes of northbound I-75 in Flint Township near the M-57 exit.
At 6:19 a.m. an accident was reported at South Seymour Road and Rolston Road. At 6:44 a.m., a crash was reported at North Belsay and Davison Road.
Just after 7 a.m., an accident came in at the corner of Silver Lake and Lobdell roads. At 7:13 p.m., officials responded to an accident at Potter Road and Lost Creek Drive.
At the same time, an accident was reported at Vienna and Duffield roads. At 7:19 a.m., a crash was reported at North Center and Pierson roads. At 7:21 a.m., crews responded to a crash on NB I-75 at Coldwater Road.
Five accidents were reported from 7:24 to 7:26 a.m., including a crash at South Saginaw Road and I-75, West Hill Road and Torrey Road, NB I-475 and Saginaw Street, West Vienna Road and Linden Road, NB I-75 and Court Street, East Grand Blanc Road and Dort Highway and a crash at Miller Road and Ballenger Highway.
From 7:32 to 7:42 a.m., six additional crash reports have come into our newsroom, including an accident at SB I-475 at SB I-75; and West Bristol Road entering the WB I-69 ramp.
From 7:45 a.m. to 8 a.m., as many as eight accidents were reported throughout the area. Most of the Genesee County accidents remain active.
From 8 a.m. to 8:05 a.m., as many as new accidents were being reported, including a crash on EB I-69 and West Bristol Road.
Five more accidents have been reported in Genesee County from 8:06 a.m. to 8:21 a.m., including a car/truck accident that has resulted in both vehicles catching fire.
From 8:30 a.m. to 8:50 a.m., seven more crashes were reported in Genesee County. Accidents were reported at Flint Carmen Ainsworth High School and Mason Elementary School in Grand Blanc Township.
Most of the accidents in Genesee County have been cleared but there are still reports of a few on the roadways. At 9:32 a.m., there was a crash on SB I-475 at the Saginaw Road exit ramp.
