Mich. officials meet to project size of budget

LANSING, MI (AP) -

Michigan officials soon will have a better idea of how much money is available for the next state budget.

Economists and state analysts are meeting Friday for a revenue-estimating conference at the Capitol. They'll come up with a consensus figure so Gov. Rick Snyder can offer a budget for the fiscal year that begins in October. The outlook for Michigan's economy also will be discussed.

The Snyder administration says economic growth has been softer than anticipated, but the state isn't likely to make significant cuts like in 2011 when the governor took office and overhauled taxes.

The state treasurer says revenue for the current budget is about $150 million below the estimate from last May.
