Once again this year, free tax preparation will be available to Saginaw County residents who meet the IRS Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) guidelines.
Through the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program free tax preparation will be available at 10 locations throughout Saginaw County.
Saginaw County VITA sites will officially open the week of February 4. Opening dates and times vary by location. Traditionally Saginaw County VITA sites have always opened the last week of January, however due to January tax law changes made by Congress under the American Taxpayer Relief Act (ATRA), the IRS materials will not be available until the following week.
Dates, times and locations for Saginaw County VITA sites are listed in the photo on the right.
The number of individuals that will be served is based on how many volunteers are able to prepare taxes. It is our policy that if the Public School Districts are closed due to weather related conditions, our VITA sites in that district will be closed that day also. All VITA sites will be closed on Friday, March 29 in observance of Good Friday.
The VITA program is a service of United Way of Saginaw County. The program is sponsored by grants from the Walmart Foundation and IRS.
For more information on the VITA program, to find out what documents you need to bring with you to the tax sites, please contact Marsha Cooley at (989) 755-0505.
