You might soon be able to adopt a pet for less money in Saginaw County.
Kevin Wilkins, director of the Saginaw County Animal Shelter, wants to lower the cost to adopt dogs to about $125 from the current $175.
Adopting a cat would remain $90. All other animals would be $15.
At one time, the fee for adoption was $10, plus a small deposit was required to ensure that animals that were adopted would be spayed or neutered. The deposit would be refunded once proof of the surgery was presented.
The new fees ensure that every animal adopted will be spayed or neutered.
The Saginaw County Commission would have to approve the change. The commission is expected to meet Jan. 22.
