HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

The Hartford Police Department arrested a 23-year-old man Friday who is accused of holding his pregnant girlfriend against her will for three days.

Officers were called to the area of 100 Weston St. around 6 a.m. where the incident occurred. Police arrested Vernon Lloyd of Hartford. Police believe that Lloyd was in possession of a firearm during the incident.

He was charged with lawful restraint, first-degree assault, third-degree assault of a pregnant woman, second-degree threatening, harassment and violation of probation.

Police said Lloyd, who is believed to be the father of the victim's unborn child, has an extensive criminal history.

He was being held on a $2.25 million bond and is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court Friday.

"I applaud all involved in this investigation for its quick turnaround," said Hartford Police Chief James C. Rovella.

Officers believe Lloyd may be a suspect in other ongoing shooting investigations.

After the incident, Lloyd's family was placed in protective services.
