ALBANY, OR (KPTV) -

An 18-year-old man driving a 2011 Volkswagen Golf hit speeds up to 120 mph in a chase with Oregon State Police troopers Sunday night, police said.

A trooper spotted the speeding car with California license plates on Interstate 5 southbound in Albany around 6:21 p.m.

Police said the trooper tried to stop the car near milepost 231, but the driver failed to yield and sped up as he tried to elude police.

A second trooper set up spike strips several miles later, and the spikes deflated the left front tire, causing the car to stop in the left lane near milepost 218.

Troopers stopped southbound traffic, removed both the driver and passenger and then arrested Angel Gallo, of Springfield.

Gallo now faces charges of felony attempt to elude, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person.

The passenger wasn't arrested and a trooper took him to his home in Eugene.
