Because of the snow storm predicted for Election Day on Tuesday, polling locations in Wyandotte and Johnson counties have been consolidated to locations where access is most available for election workers and voters.
If the consolidated location is your assigned location, you may vote on a machine. If not, you will use a provisional paper ballot to vote.
In addition, because of the weather, the election office will be an alternate polling place on Election Day for any voter in the primary election.
Officials in Kansas said there was no power under state law to delay the election so it will go on Tuesday no matter the conditions. Only a judge could delay the election, and no judge has done so.
Wyandotte County Election Commissioner Bruce Newby said he would prefer not to hold the election Tuesday, but he has no choice.
"I would not do this to my election workers, and I would not do it to voters," he said.
Polls in Kansas will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Some governments will have fewer polls open because of the snow.
Advance voting was extended until 7 p.m. Monday. That resulted in packed polling places.
"I wanted to avoid the inclement weather tomorrow," voter Ella Womack said before casting her ballot.
Kansas City, KS, and Wyandotte County say even with emergency measures in place, the election for mayor will go on.
The only locations open in Wyandotte County will be: the county election office, 850 State Ave.; the National Guard Armory, 100 S. 20th St.; Open Door Baptist Church, 2033 N. 103rd Terrace; Risen Lamb Church of the Nazarene, 5301 Metropolitan Ave.; and Edwardsville Community Center, 696 S. Third St.
In Johnson County, only the jurisdictions listed are involved in this election. The following locations are where each primary will take place in Johnson County.
Fairway, KS - Ward 4: Roeland Park Community Center. Lenexa, KS - Ward 3 Central Church of the Nazarene. Merriam, KS - Ward 2: Merriam Christian Church. Shawnee, KS - Ward 2: Merriam Christian Church. Roeland Park, KS - Roeland Park Community Center. Overland Park, KS - Ward 5: Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Village Shalom.
