Walkers in Gladwin County.
BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
The Mid-Michigan Community Action hosted Walk for Warmth events this past Saturday in Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Mecosta, Midland and Osceola counties.
Between the six events, 325 walkers braved the cold to raise funds that will help keep their neighbors warm through emergency utility assistance. The amount collected at the Walk events totals $28,667, but with sponsorship dollars, in-kind and prior fundraising efforts included, the total amount raised stands at $63,329.
Donations are still being accepted as Mid-Michigan Community Action strives to reach its goal of raising $100,000 for the cause.
Walkers donation totals for each event are listed below. Venues for each walk are in parenthesis. Every dollar raised goes right into the community, with each county's funds helping keep the heat on in homes across that specific county.
Bay County: $8,873 (Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bay City)
Highlights from Walk for Warmth include a proclamation issued by Bay City Mayor Christopher Shannon, designating Saturday, February 23, 2013 as Walk for Warmth Day to honor Mid-Michigan's efforts in improving the lives of Great Lakes Bay Region residents.
In Gladwin County Beaverton Mayor Nile Frei kicked off the event by giving opening remarks. And across all six events Consumers Energy showed great support by bringing a total of 55 walkers, including staff and family members.
Special thanks go out to Gold Sponsors Chemical Bank, DTE Energy and Trivalent Group and all of the Walk for Warmth sponsors who helped make the events a success. To donate to Mid Michigan's Walk for Warmth, view sponsors and find more information please visit www.mmcaa.org/W4W.
