Frankenmuth police were called to investigate an assault on Wednesday night on South Franklin in the city after a woman said she was the victim of an attempted robbery.
When officers arrived at the home, a middle aged woman said she was getting into her vehicle to leave when a man in the back seat of her vehicle demanded her purse.
When she hesitated, she told police she was struck from behind on her neck and head multiple times by a blunt object.
Authorities said the suspect then fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim described the man as a 30-year-old white male who smelled of cigarettes and a petroleum/gasoline based product.
A Michigan State Police K-9 team from the Tri-Cities post was called in to track the suspect, but were not successful in finding him.
MMR was sent to the scene where the victim was treated for abrasions sustained in the assault.
Police said they did seize some evidence at the scene which is believed to have been used in the assault left behind by the suspect.
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking that anyone with information on the incident contact the Frankenmuth Police at 989-652-3430.
