Thumb region gets money to help with dredging

CASEVILLE, MI -

More than $2 million in state money is coming to communities in the Thumb to help make sure boats don't bottom out.

The money will go toward dredging three harbors on Lake Huron.

More than $600,000 will pay for the work in Caseville, and the harbors in Harbor Beach and Port Austin will get $700,000 apiece.

The Department of Natural Resources says Lake Huron is 16 inches lower than it was a year ago.
