The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports (http://bit.ly/YOaQcd) the sign outside Roy's General Store was changed to read: "GET YOUR M16 RIFLE HERE BEFORE IT IS OUTLAWED."
Manager Rob Hentschel says most regular customers took it as a joke, knowing that the store sells ammunition but not guns. Some people, however, inquired about guns at the store. On Thursday, the sign read: "PILOT LIGHT OUT? FIRE `ER BACK UP WITH AN M16 RIFLE."
The store has used a portable sign since the 1970s to attract attention. Past ones have included: "EAT HERE -- GET GAS AND WORMS" to "IT'S TOO COLD TO CHANGE THE SIGN."
