Relaxed Knights head to Macon

Posted: Updated:

For the first time in three years, the Deerfield-Windsor Knights are back in the GISA final four.

Head coach Gordy Gruhl believes his team just getting to Macon may be the biggest thing they need to win the school's sixth state championship.

Deerfield-Windsor will play Dominion Christian in the first GISA AAA boys semifinal Friday night at Mercer.

Coach Gruhl believes getting past the first two rounds had become a mental thing for his senior team after they were upset in the first round of last year's state tournament.

Deerfield-Windsor though isn't just satisfied with making the final four.

The goal is to bring home a state championship and the Knights believe their depth will be their advantage this weekend.

"We play at a pace that tries to wear the other team down.It takes a while but we have been able to do that throughout the year. Particularly playing back to back nights, if we are fortunate enough to win on Friday,  I think that is going to be a big advantage for us on Saturday," said head coach Gordy Gruhl.

"We have had seven days to really let it sink in.  The anticipation is built up every hour.  We are ready to go," said senior Weston King.

Deerfield-Windsor will tip at 7:00 p.m. Friday against Dominion Christian.
