Mid-Michigan had a slow start this winter with snowfall. Where do we stand now? Here's a breakdown of the numbers.

Starting in October, all of Mid-Michigan received less than half an inch. Pretty normal for the month.

In November, we started to fall slightly behind. Saginaw was totaling 2.4" for the season, where the average is 3.9". For Flint, winter totals so far were 2.2", with an October-November average of 2.9". Houghton Lake had received 7.2" so far, while the average number is 8.5".

By the end of December, Saginaw had received a season total of 9.8", and the October-December average is 12.9". Flint had received 11.1", where the normal total by that time is 14.7". In Houghton Lake, 20.5" had fallen so far, and the average is 25".

Not much progress was made in January to catch up. By the end of the month, Saginaw had only received 15.8" for the season, and the average is 24.8". Flint was up to 21.7", where the average is 27.8". Houghton Lake's total was 33.1", where the average by that time is 42.1".

February was a different story, and most areas caught up or surpassed the average. The February 7-8 snow event brought almost 7" to Saginaw, and about 6" to Flint and Houghton Lake. The most recent snow event, from February 26-28, brought almost 6" to Saginaw, 3" to Flint, and 2.6" to Houghton Lake. This brought the season snow total in Saginaw to 40", which is more than the October – February average, at 33.4". Flint has received 38.3", just .3" shy of the average of 38.6". Houghton Lake is still a couple inches short of the average, with 51.3" so far this season, and an average of 54.5".

Even with the slower start, many spot have caught up and received close to average for the season. We'll see what the remainder of the snowy season brings. For March – April, Saginaw averages about 8" of snow. In Flint, the average is close to 9", and in Houghton Lake it is about 11".
