MLB Hall of Famer Cal Ripken's company, Ripken Design, is in Mid-Michigan Tuesday to conduct a study that could bring a sports complex to the community.
The Maryland-based design firm will take a look at Saginaw's demographics and assess the financial viability of bringing a facility to the area.
Such a complex could possibly generate millions of dollars and revenue and much needed jobs to the area. If built, the complex would provide a venue for national tournaments and camps that would bring many visitors to the region.
"If successful, this project could be a tremendous economic generator for the City of Saginaw and the surrounding area, potentially brining tens of thousands of visitors and millions of dollars in spending to hotels, restaurants and local businesses," said Dan Taylor, project manager for Ripken Design.
Ripken Design said it may take around 60 to 90 days for the results of the study. The company conducted a similar study in Myrtle Beach, SC. The city built the Ripken Experience Complex and the facility has generated in upwards of $27.5 million in revenue to the community.
Ripken Design held a meet and greet session at Dawn of a New Day Coffee House and Cafe Tuesday morning.
