SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
Jim Craig, the goaltender of the United States Olympic hockey team in 1980, will be in Saginaw Wednesday as a guest of Covenant HealthCare.
Craig will appear at the Blue Line Club inside of Saginaw's Dow Event Center to talk about the Ultimate Saaave campaign. The campaign, in which Craig is a spokesperson, aims to save lives of people suffering from AAA or abdominal aortic aneurysm.
Craig's father, Dan Craig, died of the disease in 1988 at the age of 68.
Jim Craig played an integral role is the United States' victory over the heavily favored Russians in the semifinal game of the 1980 Olympics. The Americans went on to defeat Finland in the Gold Medal game. Craig made 36 saves against the Russians, who were looking for their fifth straight Olympic gold medal in the sport. The Russians went on to capture gold in 1984 and 1988.
Although there is not a Saginaw Spirit game scheduled, the team will join the Saginaw Surgical Society at the Blue Line Club from 5-6:30 p.m.
