Hualapai corporation seeks bankruptcy protection

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AP) -

The tribal corporation that managed the Grand Canyon Skywalk has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The filing late Monday comes after a federal judge upheld a $28 million judgment against Sa' Nyu Wa and in favor of a Las Vegas developer. The corporation is appealing.

David Jin built the glass bridge on the Hualapai reservation. His attorneys are seeking to garnish the corporation's bank accounts to help fulfill the judgment.

SNW chief executive Jennifer Turner says the corporation is unable to continue business. Its only shareholder is the Hualapai Tribe.

She says another tribal corporation now is operating the Skywalk and has hired the employees from SNW.

Court documents show that SNW has assets of up to $10 million but owes creditors as much as $50 million.
