Huron County man shot by police overnight

SEBEWAING, MI (WNEM) -

Sebewaing Police has confirmed that there was an incident overnight in which a man with a gun was shot by an officer.

Officers recieved a call of shots fired at a home on the 100 block of Young Street in Sebewaing around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, near the intersection of Center and Sharpsteen streets.

The Sebewaing Police Department, Michigan State Police, Huron County Sheriff's Department, Pigeon Police and Bad Axe Police all responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, the man in question tried to flee the residence and allegedly fired shots at officers. Officers returned fire and shot the man at that time.

The 66-year-old man, whose name has not been released was taken to an area hospital. The suspect is believed to have sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The trooper who shot the man has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.

The Sebewaing Police Department is investigating the initial felonious assault charge that led up to the incident. Michigan State Police is investigating the shotting situation.
