MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

A Middletown man was arrested after breaking in to his ex-girlfriend's house early Wednesday morning, according to police.

Around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, a man said he was inside his girlfriend's apartment and was trying to fall back to sleep after she left for work when he said he head the front door open and slam shut.

He told police he went to investigate and was confronted by a large, black male whom he identified as his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend, identified as Damion Palmer, 33.

According to the boyfriend, Palmer separated from his ex more than a year ago. During that time, the current boyfriend knew Palmer was not welcome in his girlfriend's home, and didn't know how he was able to get inside.

When the man confronted Palmer as to why he was inside, he said Palmer lifted his shirt and showed a large knife in his waistband and began ranting about how he had been dating her for 10 years and "couldn't let go."

The man said he became frightened and attempted to call 911. While he was doing that, police said he was able to arm himself with a small machete and Palmer ran off.

Two knives were recovered in the vicinity of the home, police said.

During the investigation, police said Palmer contacted the Middletown Police Department and agreed to surrender.

He was arrested and charged with home invasion and threatening.

He's being held on $250,000.
