PLATTE COUNTY, MO (KCTV) -

An alleged skinhead has been charged with a hate crime for assaulting a man who tried to break up a fight between him and his father.

Albert L. Strutton Jr., 27, of Northmoor, MO, was charged Thursday with domestic assault for beating his father and third degree assault as a hate crime for punching another man because of his race.

"Missouri's hate crime statute provides longer prison terms for assaulting someone because of the victim's race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, or disability. In this case, we allege the defendant beat another man because of his race," Platte County prosecuting attorney Eric Zahnd said.

Strutton allegedly assaulted his father on Feb. 16 while at a cookout to celebrate Strutton's recent parole from prison, according to court documents.

Strutton allegedly became upset when his father complimented the work of an African American man at the cookout. Strutton called his father a hateful word and punched him three times.

The victim of the alleged hate crime witnessed the fight and tried to help Strutton's father.

Strutton allegedly then yelled a racial slur and struck the man. A witness reported Strutton threatened to slit another party-goer's throat and kill his family.

A witness said Strutton was a skinhead and has Nazi tattoos, according to court documents.

Strutton was arrested on a parole violation warrant and taken to jail for review by the parole board.

In addition to the parole warrant, Strutton is being held on a $100,000 cash bond. If convicted on all charges, Strutton faces up to 22 years in prison.

Strutton was previously charged for an assault of a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and forgery in 2003.
