FLINT, MI (WNEM) -
Genesee County loses more auto jobs as General Motors has announced that third shift workers at Flint's Engine Operations plant will lose their jobs next month.
The layoffs do not affect third shift operations on the machining line.
More than 100 jobs will be cut.
The news wasn't unexpected. General Motors announced that the production of its 1.4 liter engines for the Buick Encore will now be made in Korea.
The cuts weren't expected to take effect until later this year, but the South Korean facility is prepared to make engines earlier than originally thought.
The layoffs affect 64 full time and 40 temporary workers. Flint Engine currently has about 900 hourly and salaried workers at the facility.
The cuts do not impact any other production at the facility.
