A prequel to one of the most beloved movies of all time is hitting theaters Friday, and it was filmed right here in Michigan.

Oz the Great and Powerful is a prequel to the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz and it was shot almost entirely at Michigan Motion Pictures Studio in Pontiac.

That's not the only Michigan connection. The movie is directed by Royal Oak native Sam Raimi and features the MSU drumline.

The film, which is being released by Walt Disney Pictures, stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams.

The movie will be playing at Fashion Square Cinemas in Saginaw, Bay City 8, Cinema Hollywood in Birch Run, Clio Square Cinemas and NCG in Midland.

The movie is rated PG.
