WYOMING, MI (AP) -

Authorities say a man impersonated a police officer as part of an effort to get sex from a pair of women at a West Michigan motel.

The Grand Rapids Press reports 32-year-old Lavern Stephen Filipunas of Kalamazoo has been ordered to stand trial in Kent County Circuit Court on charges of impersonating an officer and extortion. He was booked last month.

Defense lawyer Lesley Kranenberg says Filipunas never directly said he was a police officer. Filipunas is free after posting bond.

Authorities say the women accepted an online offer to have sex with a man for $300, but Filipunas flashed a security guard badge after they arrived at a motel in Wyoming. Court records say Filipunas wanted to get a discount and didn't pay the women.
