BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

It was a dream come true for Morgan Acker after not seeing her father for 10 months.

The girl received a surprise at school when her father, SFC. Dave Acker, walked out onto the gym floor at Hampton Elementary school in Bay County.  Morgan threw herself into his arms while her classmates cheered.

TV5 asked Morgan what it's been like for her the past 10 months he's been gone. "Uh, it was kind of hard," replied the 11-year-old.

Morgan's stepmom, Laurie Acker, set up the surprise arrival. She knows what it's like to be away from home as she also serves in the military.

"We in fact got back in 2011 ourselves," said Laurie Acker. "Together we went on a deployment, [and] a year later he went, so it was really easy for me to support him and having Morgan made it just that much easier for me."

Morgan's mother Rachel Farver was also there for her daughter at the special moment.

"She's had a rough couple of years, this is the second time he's left, so [we're] really happy he's back," said Farver.

Sergeant Acker was getting pretty antsy to see his daughter after arriving home to his base in Lansing over the weekend.

"You know, it's definitely well worth it, well worth it to see her," said Sgt. Acker. "Now she's almost as tall as I am, so, it's unbelievable, she's grown up a lot, a lot of things to think about, a lot of things to do now that we're back home."

The Ackers said they hope that they won't be deployed again anytime soon.
