Natural Resources Commission to meet in Saginaw

LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

The Michigan Natural Resources Commission (NRC) will hold its regular monthly meeting on the road.  It will be held Thursday, March 14, at the Saginaw Field & Stream Conservation Club, 1296 North Gleaner Road, Saginaw.

The day will begin at 10 a.m. with a meeting of the NRC's Marketing and Outreach Advisory Committee. The committee will receive reports from the Colorado Wildlife Public Education Council and Nimrod Society; the DNR's "MI Big Green Gym" promotion of state parks; the Pure Michigan hunting and fishing campaign results; and developments with the Youth Conservation Council.

At the 12:30 p.m. meeting of the Policy Committee on Wildlife and Fisheries, the DNR Wildlife Division will present proposed elk regulations and quotas and review bear harvest data. The DNR Fisheries Division will report on walleye tagging and movement in Saginaw Bay, and on cooperative partnerships for walleye rearing.

At 2 p.m., the Committee of the Whole will discuss long-term funding and receive a presentation from Ducks Unlimited.

Beginning at 3:15 p.m., Partners in Conservation Awards will be presented to the Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office of Ducks Unlimited and to ITC Holdings Corp.

At 3:35 p.m., DNR conservation officer Mike Hammill will receive the Shikar Safari Officer of the Year Award. At 3:45 p.m., winners of the Wetland Wonders Challenge will receive their awards.

Immediately following the awards presentations, the NRC will hear comments from the public. Those wishing to make public comments before the NRC should contact Deb Whipple, executive assistant to the NRC, at 517-373-2352 or whippled1@michigan.gov to register.

Following public comment, the Committee of the Whole will reconvene to receive DNR Director Keith Creagh's report and a legislative update.

One land transaction is eligible for action by the director.
